Ugh. Horrible day. In fact, for ratings all round it was pretty naff.
So anyway, 3:30 at Redcar and course specialist Hajjam won for us a couple of weeks ago at a longer price than this, but 3/1 seems fair for a 5lb rise on a horse that’s 4 from 7 over C&D. It was proof, if proof were needed, that he loves the place because prior to that, he’d been mostly quite pants. So they’re rolling the dice once more before his mark will need working back down.
The 3:20 at Market Rasen is full of possibilities, so it’s all about finding a selection that gives you value. Fire Away does that in spades. He’s 15/2 at the moment and has a 71% record with Adam Wedge in the saddle. That’s largely down to his stellar 2021, and he’s done quite well in 2022 as well. The occasional mistake does mean that his record is patchy otherwise, but for place money, he may well be handy. Defi d’Oudaries can’t be rated, but by all accounts he’s quite handy in France. So watch this one.
6:57 at Ayr, and Grand Canal is ‘well in’, as they say. He is statistically your best horse and he’s 26% ahead of the field in form, and is also 3lb lower than last time out, and is better than evens. All of this is rather nice, no?
And I suppose I should talk about Ascot. 4:20, Coronation Stakes, why not try an additional place tipple on Sandrine. This is a filly who started off like a train, winning her first three, and then a couple of close things at the end of the season ruined her record a little. She returned for the Guineas and just lost out on fourth at the end, but as a reappearance, it wasn’t that bad and she was keeping on. So in this field, she has every chance if she’s improving. 11/1 at the moment. Maybe more?
